Clothesline Project Gets Repeat Performance

The Clothesline ProjectWomen In Transition will display its eleven-year-old Clothesline Project at The Sanctuary October 17-19, 2008 as a part of a multi-genre performance designed to educate the community about domestic violence. The work, "Terror is Um..." was previously seen at the Sanctuary in August and the response was tremendous. Davina’ Stewart, a spoken-word performance artist, seeks to demonstrate the realities of domestic violence through a child’s perspective, the hour-long work uses different spaces within The Sanctuary to represent the different rooms in a house. In her preparation for the performances, Stewart sought training from Women In Transition to learn about abuse cycles, entrapment and propagation of violence. Call the Sanctuary for more details and to reserve ticket in advance at (267) 456-7432. The performance on the 18th features an "Open Mike," in which those who would like to speak publically about their personal experiences are able to do so. The Sanctuary, a wellness center, is located at 2737 Cambridge Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130.

Roberta and Eve

Our Executive Director Roberta L. Hacker with Celebrity Benefactress EVE

EVE Chooses Women In Transition as
Her Cartier Love Charity of Choice

Eve's Love BraceletWhen Cartier announced the ambassadors for its June Love Charity Event celebration, hip hop artist Eve was on the list. Also launched by the famous jeweler was the accompanying Love Charity Bracelet, which was customized by Eve.

Upon hearing that she had been chosen as a Cartier Ambassador, the Philadelphia native did what any sensible girl would do... she called her mom. As an Ambassador for the Love EveCharity Event, Eve was able to choose her charity of choice, as recipient of Cartier's charitable gift of $75,000 in addition to a percentage of sales for Eve's bracelet. The beneficiary was none other than Women In Transition, recommended by Mom. And we have Mom, who still lives in Philadelphia, to thank for that. Thanks, Mom, and thank you, Eve, for including us in this day of honor for you and all women in transition.
